brand identity

Leeds Arts, Events and Venues is a department of Leeds City Council and is responsible for the management of the council’s arts performances, festivals and events. The department runs three performance venues – Leeds Town Hall, Carriageworks Theatre and Millennium Square – as well as organising many festivals and music performance events across the city.

The department had no identity of its own and communications from the various sections had become inconsistent and disjointed. Design It was approached to create an identity for the department to solve the issue and ensure each team could communicate in a consistent style.

The department wanted a mark that would stand alone for internal and external correspondence, but also something that would sit comfortably alongside other logos and identities that are used throughout its various activities.

Various styles and ideas were presented, along with various concepts illustrating application across the many intended uses for the mark. A strong typographical approach was selected and is now used on all publications and communications from the department. Finally, a Brand Guidelines document was created, ensuring use of the identity remains consistent however and wherever it’s applied.
